more places to donate

during the q&a at my organizing workshop this past saturday, a woman asked about donating items to specific charities/organizations (rather than your run-of-the-mill thrift store).  her desire was that her old stuff (ie; prescription glasses, medical equipment, etc.) was going to go directly into the hands of an individual that needed it. i pointed her to this link (real simple's guide on how to donate everything from a-z). a nice follow-up with additional resources that i found this morning, is huffington post's article--8 ways to get rid of stuff. my favorite--project night night.  they fill tote bags with children's books and dole out to kids in need. another fav is patagonia's common threads recycling program. if your fleece jackets and pullovers have seen better days, give them a new life. patagonia will recycle it into brand new clothing. now that's hot.
