oh my goodness!! uh-mazing! not only is she only checking email 2 times/week, she lets folks know that you shouldn't expect an email back right away! i kinda would love to try this for a week (although with me owning my own business that would just be silliness). but how about you--would you be able to let your messages go unchecked for most of the week? try it on for size and let me know how it goes!

try this on for size
if you're not already setting limits on checking your email daily--you really should. checking your email 2-3 times during the day will not only ensure a more productive work day by eliminating distractions--it will also save your sanity. i bring this whole email thing up because i received an automatic reply from a woman after emailing her today. a little backstory; because i write for apartment therapy, i'm always on the lookout for cool blog ideas as content for posts. a friend emailed me this individuals blog because of her DIY checkered painted floor. so i emailed her for permission to use her photo for apartment therapy and instantly received this email;

such an inspiration! right now I would not be able to do so but I would like to try it and see how it goes sometime in the future.
ReplyDeletewow - that is amazing. i want to be her when i grow up! i'm not sure i can check my email only 2x a week (i remote commute for work, so...) but i like the idea of setting some boundaries. i just had to get my first "smart" phone and it's crazy how much email then takes over your life. it's always there. i never thought of myself as a super-connected person, but i find myself getting nervous that i'm missing something uber important, which is just silly talk. life will not end if i don't answer emails right away. this reminded me of that. i needed it.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing, and for this rambling comment. xox.
Wow! Stumbled across your blog today from "Life according to Celia" and love this post! I'm terribly convicted! I'm an idiot email checker. Need. More. Boundaries. Thanks for sharing. I think I'll share the same thoughts on my own blog - it needs to be heard!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!!! I think my bosses, family, friends and misc. charities I'm involved with would send out a search team. Being that I am command central to everyone's life, and the world does in fact revolve around me, life as we know it would come to a screaching, grinding halt! JK of course. But my bosses would be less than happy. My family would understand, and the ASPCA, Red Dress and breast cancer sites might have to wait a week, but my sanity will have been renewed. Worth considering.....
