I get one of these every year (as i expect you do as well). it's your social security statement and if you're over the age of 25 and earning money for the man, you've got one coming to you. every year, 3 months before your birthday, expect to see yours in the mailbox. but what does it all mean?! from the social security website, they tell me that it's a "record of the earnings on which you have paid Social Security taxes during your working years and a summary of the estimated benefits you and your family may receive as a result of those earnings." righhhhhhht. basically, it's information that pertains only to you and you receive an updated version every year. it's important to check your address, name and job deets for accuracy. when the new one comes in the mail, i shred the previous statement. unfortunately, they're not available for online download (yet) but you can request an old one if you have to.
